1. VISION & MEDICAL EYE EXAM
It is important for all San Antonio, TX patients to understand the difference between two types of eye examinations. The type of eye exam is solely determined by the reason of YOUR visit. Most insurance will only cover one type of exam. Here are the 2 types of eye examinations:

     (1) Annual Vision Wellness Eye Examination
          - Individualized complete eye examination with glasses and/or contact lens prescription included
          - Exam is usually paid by your Vision Insurance Carrier, not by Medical Insurance
          - Co-pay and non-covered service fees are collected on the same day of the visit

     (2) Medical Eye Disease Examination & Treatment
          - Problem-focused examination - example: red eyes, glaucoma, emergency visits, or more
          - If glasses and/or contact lens prescription requested, an additional fee will be charged
          - Eye exam is usually paid by your Medical Insurance Carrier, not by Vision Insurance
          - Co-pay and non-covered service fees are collected on the same day of the visit
Retinal eye examination gets better with Daytona Optos Ultra-widefield (UWF™), a scanning laser technology provides a photograph of the back of your eyes.

4. THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR SENIOR EYE EXAMS

Eye exams become extra important for maintaining health and vision quality as people age. A quick and comprehensive eye exam will check for early signs of eye disease and make sure you have the right prescription. Eye exams are especially important for anyone over the age of 60 because the most common causes of blindness like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration increase with age. Diabetic retinopathy is currently the leading cause of blindness among working-age Americans. Routine eye exams are a great way to prevent this disease from taking away your eyesight. Vision loss from these diseases can often be prevented or reduced if detected early. An eye exam will make sure your eyes are fully healthy. There is no need to take chances with your eyesight as you get older, so make sure to schedule annual exams.
